I'm currently about halfway through the Moore and it's sadly a little disappointing: while it's interesting if you care about him or any of the long list of people he worked with, and gives some bits of color about a musician's life in his times and places, he restricts himself quite strongly in which stories he is willing to tell. The overall effect is a bit more surface than I had hoped: nothing in the book so far would have been out of place in a public lecture.
